Water
More than you expect. There is no refill point once you leave the ranger post.
Sun cover
Hat, light long sleeves and sunscreen. The savanna offers no shade on the longer loops.
Small first-aid kit
Blister plasters, antiseptic wipes and any personal medication. There is no medical facility on the island.

Binoculars
Deer, birds and distant dragons across open ground. Adds more than a longer walk does.

Dry bag
Sea spray is common on the crossing, especially on a speedboat. Cameras and phones want protection.

A zoom lens
Roughly 70–200mm equivalent covers wildlife at a safe distance without ever needing to step closer.
Why Not Flip-Flops
This is a safety point, not a dress code. The trail is loose gravel and dry scrub, the ground hides thorns, and you may need to move quickly and predictably behind a ranger.
On modesty: Rinca has no resident community beyond rangers on rotation — no village, mosque or market on the island — so the dress conventions that apply elsewhere in Flores do not apply to the trek itself.
