Wildlife & Trekking
Every route on Rinca starts and ends at Loh Buaya. What changes is distance, exposure and how far you walk from the animals — not your odds of seeing them.

All three are led by a licensed ranger. Sightings cluster near the post, so a longer walk buys you landscape rather than better odds.

Onto open savanna with gentle climbs and loose ground. The route most first-time visitors take.
A sustained climb to the ridgeline, exposed and shadeless for long stretches. Start early, carry water.
Early morning, while the ground is cool enough for the animals to move and before the savanna turns into an oven.
Independent trekking is not permitted anywhere on Rinca. Every group of one to five people walks with a licensed ranger, and the ranger fee is charged per group rather than per head.
Entry is booked in advance through SiOra. The park works to a daily quota of roughly 1,000 visitors split across three sessions, counted park-wide rather than per island.
Loose gravel, thorn scrub and the occasional snake. Flip-flops are a genuine hazard here, not a style note.
There is no shade on the medium and long loops, and no refill point on the trail.
Hat, sleeves, sunscreen. The savanna reflects heat as well as holding it.
